I have been doing this daily training blog for the past 3-4 months.  It’s been an interesting experience.   Every day now I think about what I’m going to say.  It’s also helped me to do a workout when I might otherwise have bagged it.  Having you out there reading what I’m doing gave me a little more accountability.   However, I have decided to discontinue posting my training progress, not because I plan to quit training, but because I have just accepted a new job and need to find some things to stop doing, and this is one of them.  I’ve only been getting 5-10 followers on most days, and I know who several of you are.  I appreciate you reading what I’ve been doing and thank you.

I hope by reading my training (b)log, you have been a little more encouraged with your own training.  I also hope you realize that I have some days that are better than others.  The main thing is to keep working at it.  Fitness doesn’t follow a nice linear increase, but over the long haul it can improve with constant attention.

Good luck out there with your riding.

Yesterday was surprisingly tiring.  It was an easy pace but we rode for 3 hours.  I was tired last night and my legs felt it.  Another cold day below freezing so I just spun easily on the roller today.  Still a 100+ mile week.

It wasn’t very warm out today but I had made plans to ride with some teammates so I went out.   It got up to the low 30′s.    We ended up riding for 3+ hours, nice slow base miles.  I certainly wouldn’t have done this by myself.  Even started to bonk towards the end. I have to remember to eat now that I’m riding more.  Felt good to feel worked over.

The weather today wasn’t very hospitable so I just went for a short ride indoors.  However, I did a 15 minute time trial so I really got myself going even though it was a short ride.  Remember, the shorter the ride, the faster you should go.

I had appointments with the tax guy and kids to run around today so I did not get any riding in.  It was a really nice day too. Hated to waste it inside.

I wanted to get outside for another ride today but it was 14 degrees and raw, so I rode the rollers again. Once March hits, I do not want to train inside anymore.  I was planning on doing 20 miles but quit after 10.  Just couldn’t do any more!

Typically Tuesdays are team training night but I couldn’t make it tonight so I ended up riding this morning.  It was great, beautiful crisp morning about 38 degrees and got in a nice 20 mile ride.

Today marks the start of my serious base road training.  My goal this week is simply to get in as many miles as I can.  I don’t have any structured workouts in the plan, just riding.   I hope the weather cooperates.

I rode 15 miles this morning. Not a lot but wanted a little recovery from yesterday.

Today was the last of the winter’s roller races.  In Iowa we have a 2 month roller race series and state championships. The fastest three times of the year are averaged to determine the winners of the championships.   Today I rode my race in 6 minutes and 11 seconds, which ties my all time best, set in 2007.  Nice to know I’m not getting slower as I get older.  In fact, this year I had my fastest and 4th fastest time of all time, so I’m satisfied with that.  I also got the silver medal in the 50+ category.

My legs felt super today. I did a good job of preparing and resting up for this race.

Another easy 10 mile spin on my rollers with low resistance.  Preparation for tomorrow’s roller race.  As I mentioned earlier this week, I am not going to get a lot of miles in this week, but this week is focused on doing well at the race.  My best time this year is 6:19 and my personal best is 6:11, so I’m really trying to be as fresh as possible going into this last rac of the season.
